As part of our Young Women in Finance day we invite 20 young women into our offices, for the purpose of introducing them to the industry and the markets. As well as gleaning their perceptions of wealth management we discuss the financial services industry in a focus group and finish with a CV and interview workshop.
The day includes highlights from our Work Experience Programme such as the CV and Interview Skills Workshop with a stronger focus on networking skills both online and offline. As well as talks through careers paths, the different options available, an overview on the highly relevant topic of Cyber Security, we also look at the basics of company analysis and why to invest.
JM Finn also hosts a work experience programme for 30 students over a 2 week period. The programme includes presentations from a variety of staff about different aspects of the business as well as shadowing sessions with Investment Managers, Research and Marketing. This allows students to gain a hands-on experience, ask questions and get involved in the different roles. Our aim is to give students at different stages an introduction to what a career in wealth management may be like.
Feedback has been extremely positive on all of the activities including the CV and Interview Skills Workshop where we offer feedback on ways to develop skills, an insight into different recruitment processes and networking tips. This is followed with a communications session and a stock pitch activity which allows students to put themselves in the positions of our Research department and Investment Manager’s. We round off the week with a group activity which gave the attendees an opportunity to work as a team and showcase what they have learned.
